Health and the City... Err... Country!

I agree with KB.. Good work Seb! :)

Ok, so...Where to begin?
Well, I am interning at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket. (Just north of the city for those of you who don’t know where that is!) I don't really know what to say except that, Southlake is a great organization – I definitely recommend Healthcare Communications to anyone interested in an exciting career that pays well, has pretty good hours (as long as we don’t have another S.A.R.S outbreak, or something of that nature!!) & for someone who wants to mingle with some pretty fascinating people! (HELLO DR. MCSTEAMY!!!!) ….NO I do NOT plan to ride the elevator with you at the same time everyday! Uhhh…….Sorry WHAT??!?! Haha… I’m kidding!

No, but it is great! I will admit it’s sad at times. It’s so upsetting to see hundreds of cancer patients (including children) EVERY SINGLE day. There I am, reading Cosmo in the lunchroom with my co-workers talking about boys and Britney Spears… and then I see all these sweet elderly people walking to get their weekly treatment. I spoke with a man in the hall the other day and he said to me, “Oh well my wife & I will be here next Wednesday.. You see, we both have cancer, so we come together.” My heart snapped in half. Definitely gives you a whole new perspective of how sick our community really is. … ANYWAYS… enough about that!

I didn’t expect a hospital to have as many fun & exciting events going on as they do, & it’s mesmerizing to hear about all of the newest procedures available!!
Also, I’ve noticed it’s similar to the SPORTS sector… reporters will come to you for the story!!
I actually worked here this past summer and throughout the semester, so in a way I missed out on the EXCITEMENT of a brand new place to intern at – but that’s ok!!! That’s why I’m so interested in knowing how you are all doing & where you are ETC!!

  1. Hey Michelle,

I agree with you 100% about not knowing that hospitals have fun and exciting events. I'm at Mount Sinai and I'm loving every minute so far.

I will try to post an entry soon.

    Cheers
    Christina
